International Day of Prayer for Persecuted Church PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 10 November 2002

The International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church is an annual event that will occur this year for the entire week of November 10 through November 17. During this time, Christians throughout the world are asked to join in prayer not only for the persecuted church but with the persecuted

The IDOP details the following ways to pray for China:
"For the nation:
That China's new leaders will heed the call for social reform and freedom, so that the increasing freedoms that are evident in some regions may spread through the entire nation opening the door for China's evangelists to witness freely and safely.

For the Church:
For Pastor Gong Shengliang and the other imprisoned members of the South China Church - for all persecuted and imprisoned believers, that God will be their comfort and their strength, sustaining them through their trial. Pray for their release.

For wisdom for Chinese pastors and evangelists in China's persecuted provinces, as they face harassment and heavy fines and even risk their liberty by preaching, and for believers who risk the same just by worshipping together."

According to their website,
"Christians from Iceland and Norway in the north to Cape Horn in South America; from Alaska in the west to the Solomon Islands in the east will pray for and with more than 200 million Christians who do not enjoy total freedom, only because they confess Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.

We will pray in big cathedrals in Europe, in small house churches in China, in the forest in Vietnam, in homes on Cuba, in secret meeting rooms in Saudi Arabia, in countryside churches in the US, in big meetings in Venezuela and in youth groups in Africa as well as many other places. We believe the tremendous growth of, and great blessings from, the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church (IDOP) is due to the fact that God loves to see his children all over the world join in prayer in Jesus' name.

We expect great things from God as we pray in the name of Jesus in November."

"Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering." Hebrews 13:3
